Our story · Rooted here since 1996

A love of the Hill Country.
A place to share it.

What began with Jim Tabor’s love of Texas landscapes and RV adventure has become a place where generations of guests have found a little more room to breathe.

Where it all began

One man’s dream.
A welcome that lasts.

In 1996, Jim Tabor brought together two things close to his heart: the Texas Hill Country and the freedom of RV adventure. He founded River Oaks RV with a simple idea—to share the ranch life he loved with others ready to make a little room for it in their own lives.

In the decades since, we’ve been grateful to welcome the remarkable people who have made this place part of their story. For some, it’s a stop along the way. For others, it’s the chance to live a long-held dream: a home base on a Hill Country ranch, with oak trees overhead and the outdoors just beyond the door.

A slower morning.
A familiar trail.
A place that feels like home.
Life at the ranch

Find your own kind of everyday adventure.

Spring bluebonnets at the ranch

Take a hike, pause to watch the birds, or wander down toward the Blanco River. When conditions allow, river fun is part of life here, too. There’s pleasure in the quieter moments as well—the changing seasons, an unhurried afternoon, and the feeling of settling into a place with a rhythm of its own.

Today, River Oaks Ranch RV primarily serves residential guests on a month-to-month basis, and short-term visitors are warmly welcome. However long you stay, we hope you’ll find a little of what brought Jim here in the first place.

A river shaped by the seasons

The Blanco River follows the rhythms of the Hill Country. Water levels and flow vary with rainfall and drought, and the river is frequently dry. Guest access does not guarantee water or suitable conditions for swimming or other river activities. Please ask us about current conditions before your visit.

The next chapter

Family roots.
A thoughtful way forward.

Rainbow above the ranch

Today, Jim’s son, Toby Tabor, carries that welcome forward with attentive, hands-on management. Under Toby’s care, we’re working to modernize the ranch and introduce contemporary amenities while holding on to the quiet character that makes River Oaks special.

It’s a new chapter grounded in the same spirit: care for the place, appreciation for our guests, and a belief that ranch living should feel welcoming.

Our only amenity is serenity.

For now, we keep things simple. Laundry facilities and camping accommodations are planned for the future, but neither is available yet.

Peaceful setting. Plan for internet.

Our rural location puts us far from the hustle and bustle—and far from fiber internet infrastructure. We do not provide community Wi-Fi. If internet is essential to your stay, please arrange your own connection and confirm coverage before arriving.
